In your own words, how would you describe Sinister King?
We are a melodic heavy metal band focused on creating great metal music.
How did you start the band?
Our guitarist Jostein and drummer Frode grew up at the same island, and first started the band together with a bass player that is no longer part of the band.
Who were your musical influences to start with the band?
Our biggest influence is Dream Theater. Other influences worth mentioning are Vanden Plas, Pagan’s Mind and Evergrey. With regards to the guitar playing Jostein is influenced by Yngwie Malmsteen, Joe Satriani and Steve Vai.
What is your aim with Sinister King?
Create great and well-produced metal music and find the fans that truly love it.
Your singing style is very accessible! Is this conscious or unconscious?
The singing style comes naturally. We are influenced by different music styles that varies from pop to death metal. We try to take advantage of that and to a certain degree create melodies that are accessible, but we mainly just do what we like and treat every song in a natural way.
In your new song “Still Here”, the style is even more catchier than before. What do you think about this and your new Ep “All Is Vanity” that was released a few weeks ago?
We try our best to create catchy songs that might also be enjoyed by non-metal fans. The choruses resemble the style in pop music, and the guitar riffs are groovy.
Are you going to change your musical style on the upcoming releases?
No, that is not the plan. Our style is riff-based, with energetic guitar riffs that drive the songs, catchy choruses, beautiful synth melodies and guitar solos. That will not change.
Your melodies are also catchy but great! How do you work the composition?
We do not rush the song writing process. These songs have been worked on for many years. We are always willing to try new iterations to improve the quality of the songs even further.
What about live performances? Do you enjoy being on stage?
Yes, but lately there haven’t been many opportunities for that. We look forward to play our music live in the coming months.
Is this hard to keep the band flowing along with your personal life?
Sometimes. But this project is important for us, and our friends and family know that.
Have you something else to say to end this interview?
Please check out our new EP ‘All is Vanity’. One review called it an ‘adrenaline booster’. If you wanna follow us day to day we are active on Instagram @sinisterkingofficial. Facebook is where we do our announcements @sinisterkingband. We also have a popular and growing YouTube-channel.
Thank you very much! Congrats for your work!
