Ellada – Angelina Pavlou: a talented pianist in Vienna

Ellada – Angelina Pavlou is a Greek pianist based in Vienna. She pursued her postgraduate studies at Royal Northern College of Music under the guidance of Professor Murray McLachlan, by which she was awarded a Master of Music degree and a Postgraduate Diploma. She completed her Bachelor studies at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, where she studied with Gabriele Baldocci and Katya Lebedeva.

Born in Xanthi, Greece Ellada started piano lessons at the age of five with Giannoula Papazoglou and later with Professor George-Julius Papadopoulos. During her studies, Ellada had master classes and lessons with Giorgia Alessandra Brustia, Nikolai Demidenko, Peter Donohoe, Barry Douglas, Margaret Fingerhut, Stephen Hough, Leon McCawley, Hamish Milne, Pascal Nemirovski, Ilya Poletaev, Pascal Roge, Jerome Rose, Martino Tirimo and Vassilis Varvaressos. She has won awards and prizes in several piano competitions including 1st prize and a scholarship at Kozani International Music Festival 2014, 2nd prize at the 4th Pan- Hellenic Competition Maria Cherogiorgou-Sigara 2012. She was a finalist in the 2017 intercollegiate John Longmire Beethoven Piano Competition. Angelina received the 3rd prize at Semi-Annual Philadelphia International Music Festival and a scholarship to the 2022 Philadelphia International Music Festival. She is a Stavros Niarchos Foundation, a Dorothy Smith and HelpMusicians Scholar, and has been supported by the Berry Award and the Helen Rachel Mackaness Charitable Trust.

Ellada regularly performs in concerts, playing solo piano repertoire and chamber music. During her undergraduate studies, she formed “Duo Haliotis” with the Cypriot pianist Christos Fountos, performing repertoire for piano 4-hands and two pianos. She has played as an orchestral pianist with Trinity Laban Winds Orchestra, including a performance at Blackheath Halls. Since October 2020, she has been a member of the Northern Film Orchestra.

Her performances inter alia, include the Athens Concert Hall, the ‘Musical Odyssey,’ Festival in Nafplio and Manos Hadjidakis’ house in Xanthi, Greece; the “Giovani in Musica” Festival in Grosseto, Italy; the Old Royal Naval College Chapel, the Jacqueline du Pre Music Building in Oxford, the Royal Academy of Arts in the frame of the Oceania exhibition 2018, the Polish Heart Club, the Pushkin House, and the Hellenic Centre. For the last 2 years, Ellada is a regular performer at the Teatro di Marcello in Rome as part of the Concerti di Tempietto Festival. In 2018, her interest in contemporary music led her to participate in Trinity Laban’s New Lights Piano Festival which hosted Michael Finnissy. In February 2019, she performed at Tate Modern Museum as part of a collaborative project between musicians, dancers, and architects. She has also participated in the anniversary Debussy Festival and the Brahms Festival at Trinity Laban. At the Pushkin House in London, she had the unique opportunity to work on Russian repertoire with the Canadian pianist Ilya Poletaev. In July 2019, she performed at Sala “A. B. Michelangeli” in Monteverdi Conservatory, Bolzano Italy. Her latest performances included Chetham’s International Piano Summer School and Bridgewater Hall in Manchester.

Ellada has been a piano teacher for more than 5 years. Her experience includes working for various music academies in London and in Manchester, being a teacher for summer schools held by the Music Conservatoires in London, and working for art programmes benefiting children and adults with autism.
