The Implications of AUKUS for European Defence and Security: Panel Discussion
The Society of International Security of the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna warmly invites you to their upcoming panel discussion under the title “The Implications of AUKUS for European Defence and Security”.
The event will be held on the 10th of November, 2021, at 19.00 CET, in person at the Diplomatische Akademie Wien (Festsaal) and live-streamed via the Society’s Facebook page. Since this is a public in-person event, the 2.5G rule for protection against COVID-19 applies. Relevant documents will be checked upon entry to the Festsaal.
In the framework of a dialogue between our key-note speakers, new developments in the field of European security and defense, with an explicit focus on the implications of the recent AUKUS deal, will be at the very center of the discussion. Currently, the European Union faces fundamental political challenges concerning the future of transatlantic relations, the role of NATO, and the recent alarming developments in the Middle East. How will the EU position itself in an ongoing geopolitical shift of powers, how can strategic independence can be achieved without political isolation, and what are other key issues in the current CSDP landscape? Such and other topics will covered by our high-level discussants. In a policy field of high uncertainty and ongoing controversy, our speakers will certainly enlighten us with their insights and expertise. Subsequent to the dialogue, the audience will have to opportunity to ask further questions.

The main goal of the Society of International Security is to provide an opportunity to students and staff of the Academy, as well as to members of the general public that attend the Society’s events to get a deeper insight into international security-related topics.
