“Women, Peace, and Security”
The Society of International Security of the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna warmly invites you to their online conference under the title “Women, Peace, and Security”. The conference will be held on the 17th of November, 2021, at 14.00-16.00 CET, online, namely through zoom and livestreamed through Facebook.
The idea behind the conference is to examine the ways women are connected and can contribute to peace and security. The discussion of both the benefits of women’s inclusion in leadership positions in foreign and security policy and of the key and vital role women can and do play with regards to cultivating a culture of peace, ensuring sustainable peace, and peacebuilding per se is alive and well. The UN Security Council initiated this discussion with its “Women, Peace, and Security Agenda” since 2000, the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda also touches upon the special role of women and gender equality in establishing peace, while regional organisations, such as the EU, have all constructed strategic plans to fully embrace women’s connection to peace and security.
In order to successfully delve into this topic, the Society of International Security has managed to bring together a quite diverse panel of women, academics, Non-Governmental Organisations’ workers, and field workers, working directly on or dealing with aspects of international security.

The Conference will be moderated by the members of the Board of the Society of International Security.
And some information on the Society of International Security. The Society is a student-based society operating within the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna. The main goal of the Society of International Security is to provide an opportunity to students and staff of the Academy, as well as to members of the general public that attend the Society’s events to get a deeper insight into international security-related topics. The Society tries to organise as many events as possible, such as roundtable discussions, lectures from academics and/or practitioners, or visits to international security-related institutions and organisations in Vienna.
