CONTEMPORARY GREEK CINEMA

«Eyes Of Night» (dir. Periklis Hoursglou)

Eleftheria, Chronis, Valia: Three characters who will cross paths. They are not ‘in’, they are not featured in glossy magazines, they don’t have perfect bodies or perfect lives. They are weak but passionate. They love, they betray and they get betrayed themselves. They seek something different, but what they really need is time and love. Their common denominator is their loneliness.

Chronis is 45 years old, he is a driver and he likes to travel alone. Eleftheria wants a man to love and have a child with him. Valia wants to leave the country town where she lives and come to Athens. But one of these characters will go beyond his little “ego” and even after taking the wrong path, still act generous.

With: Evangelia Adreadaki, Ekavi Douma,  Dimitris Mavropoulos, Maria Boura, Giannis Karatzogiannis, Spyros Stavrinidis, Nikos Karimalis, Periklis Hoursoglou

«Karavan Sarai» (dir. Tasos Psarras)

Shortly before the end of the Greek Civil War, in 1948, the border villages are evacuated to facilitate the movements of the Hellenic Army. Margaritis, a villager in his forties, is forced to leave his home and travel to Thessaloniki with his two children. He takes up residence in the Karavan Sarai (a building requisitioned for this purpose) and tries in vain to remain unaffected by the unspeakable events unfolding around him.

With: Thymios Karakatsanis, Mirka Kalatzopoulou, Melina Mpoteli, Dimitra Hatoupi, Tasos Palantzidis, Iakovos Psarras, Sofia Filippidou, Dimitris Banos, Vasilis Kolovos

«Smac» (dir. Elias Dimitriou)

Eleni leads a rather beautiful life, has a management position in a bank and loses the ground under her feet when she learns she has cancer. At that time, when she has to redefine her life, she meets Andreas, a homeless man, who sleeps at night at the entrance of her house. He is the one who, when her bag is robbed, will help her get into her apartment, which is the reason they develop a closer relationship, which serves them both. Eleni and Andreas gradually discover that they do not come from such different worlds as they would think, and there are many things that unite them.

With: Evangelia Adreadaki, Yannis Kokiasmenos, Stavroula Kontopoulou, Stefanos Mwange, Loukia Michalopoulou, Nikos Georgakis, Mariliz Ritsardi, Iordanis Hoursoglou

«Flik Flok» ( dir. Aggeliki Pardalidou)

With: Yorgos Karamihos, Angeliki Pardalidou

DOCUMENTARIES

«The Night of the Exodus» (dir. Lefteris Daskalakis)

Multithematic historical documentary, inspired by the heroic Exodus of the defenders of Missolonghi, demonstrating that the voluntary sacrifice of the Messolongites was not a random event but came as a natural consequence of the spiritual level of the inhabitants of the heroic city and the feeling of freedom, which was deeply rooted in them. Their actions during the siege and the Exodus were characterized by essentially democratic ideas. They unanimously elected their 28-year-old leader, they decided together on their every action, they remained uninvolved in quarrels and they chose to die rather than be enslaved, an act unique in human history. The documentary includes earlier video footage of the re-enactment of the blowing up of the Elder Christos Kapsalis, under the artistic direction of Christos Vlachogiannis.

«Agones» (written by Katerina Anastasopoulou)

“Agones” film documentary by Katerina Anastasopoulou is a journey on the history of the Olympic Games through culture, art and sports. From the myth to their revival. Music by the distinguished composer Dimitris Papadimitriou. Director of Photography Yannis Lazaridis.
