Greek Independence Day Parade New York – June 5, 2022
In cooperation with New Greek TV, ERT World will be broadcasting the Greek Independence Day Parade live from New York’s Fifth Avenue on June 5, 2022.
The Parade each year is organized by the Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater New York.
A delegation of 18 soldiers and 4 officers of the Presidential Guard Corps, called “Evzones”, will travel to New York to take part in the events and march in the parade.
In addition to the commemoration of the Bicentennial of the Hellenic Independence of 1821, this year’s parade will also honor the 100th Year Anniversary of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese, the 100th Year Anniversary of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA), as well as the 100th Year Anniversary of the Burning of Smyrna (1922).
The Grand Marshals of this year’s parade will be His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, the Hellenic Caucus of the US Congress and its co-chairs, Hon. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) and Hon. Gus Bilirakis (R-FL), the Greek-American Congresswoman Hon. Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY), the Olympic gold medalist, Fani Chalkia.
Honorary Grand Marshals of this year’s parade are Dimitris Kokotas, Supreme President of AHEPA, the Cypriot organizations of the United States: Federation of Cypriot American Organizations, the International Coordinating Committee, Justice for Cyprus (PSEKA) and the Pancyprian Association of America along with their Presidents Kyriakos Papastylianou and Philip Christopher, the Chian organizations of the USA, Chian Federation, Panchian Society “Korais”and the United Chian Associations of America, as well as their presidents, Ioannis Kontolios, Panagiotis Gerazounis and Dimitris Kontolios, and the Olympic gold medalist Ioannis Melissanidis.
This is the first time since 2019 that the parade is taking place, due to delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Viewers of ERT World can tune in to watch the parade live on Sunday, June 5, 2022 at 1:30 pm EST (NY) / 8:30 pm EET (Athens).
