CYPRUS MFA: ILLEGAL ANNEXATION OF UKRAINIAN TERRITORY BY RUSSIA
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus condemns the illegal annexation of parts of the Ukrainian territory by Russia.
The recent sham “referenda” conducted in parts of the Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk, and Zaporizhzhia regions of Ukraine occupied by Russia, are illegal, void and contrary to fundamental principles of International Law.
All UN members are obliged to abide by the UN Charter. The threat or use of force, the occupation, secession and annexation of the territory of one state by another are gross violations of the UN Charter.
The Republic of Cyprus attaches particular importance on issues pertaining to principles of International Law, as a result of the threats by Turkey to annex the occupied territories and will continue to maintain a principled stance.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus reiterates its support for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders.
