BEYOND BORDERS: FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES THE END OF FILM SUBMISSIONS

BEYOND BORDERS | KASTELLORIZO INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES THE END OF FILM SUBMISSIONS TO ITS 9TH EDITION

The call for film submissions for the 9th edition of Beyond Borders | Kastellorizo International Documentary Festival has officially closed, and the organization is delighted to announce a total of 763 documentary film submissions from 95 countries. This marks a significant achievement for the festival, demonstrating its growing international presence and influence.

Strategic Partner of the Festival is PPC, the leading clean energy company in Southeastern Europe, actively championing the arts and culture as pathways to a brighter future, where culture takes precedence.

Now in its 9th year, Beyond Borders has solidified its position as a global meeting point for filmmakers and documentary professionals. With a steadfast commitment to highlighting critical socio-political issues through the beauty of cinematic storytelling and art, the festival continues to push boundaries and inspire audiences worldwide.

The organization extends heartfelt thanks to all filmmakers for their trust and support, with 512 medium and feature-length films and 251 short films submitted for consideration. The majority of these submissions are poised to make their world, international, or Greek premieres at the festival, with many having already garnered acclaim at the biggest film festivals of the world such as Cannes, Berlinale, Locarno, Karlovy Vary, IDFA, CPX DOX, and others.

A multitude of documentaries exploring diverse facets, including submissions from Australia, the Country of Honor of the Festival this year, have been submitted. This designation celebrates the rich tradition of Australian documentary filmmaking and underscores the festival’s commitment to fostering cultural exchange and collaboration on an international scale.

The official competitive program of the festival will feature 18 medium and feature-length films for the Main Competition Section and 24 short films for the μicro Competition Section. Finalists will be notified of their selection in June, with the detailed program of screenings and activities set to be unveiled at the organization’s official press conference later that month. Further details regarding the timing and location of the press conference will be announced shortly.
